An unrivalled record
The record shows: 25 years with no major incidents. None of our competitors can claim the same.
What makes us so good?
Antipodeans’ expertise in the field of risk management is peerless. Our senior managers and staff are among the most experienced in the industry and regularly present risk management workshops to schools and institutions. Meet some of them.
We carefully select leaders
Our carefully selected leaders are responsible for the safety and supervision of each Expedition and Schoolies Unearthed team. Wilderness First Aid qualified, 25+ years of age and with experience in the developing world, they’re real-world educators. They work with the team to develop group dynamics prior to departure and actively facilitate leadership training while overseas.
We carefully select destinations
Our destinations comply with the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (AUS) and Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade (NZ) safety ratings. Prior to departure, they are risk assessed by our Operations team. Antipodeans are fully equipped to divert a team before and during a trip to an alternative destination if required.
We sweat the small stuff
Preparation. Planning. Details. Our safety record is so impressive due to the amount of preparation for each trip. From thoroughly researching the trek and project, to our stringent leader selection process—we think of every detail to ensure peace of mind.
“Having my child away for an extended period in a third world country did make me anxious, particularly prior to departure. It proved wasted energy, as early on I could see every detail being taken care of by a very competent team. I thank everyone at Antips for making the trip to India a memory I know my daughter will cherish forever.”
Stuart Thomson, Parent at St John’s College (India Expedition)
We never sleep
Our Support Centre is staffed 24/7 while any Antipodeans team is overseas. This support team brings years of expertise in managing groups of young people in developing countries.
Antipodeans is independently owned and operated in Australia and New Zealand, with operations and emergency procedures overseen by these same local offices. Teachers and parents will have personally met their Operations Manager. Importantly, we are not tied to any large international tour company or foreign investor. We are locals working with, and for, locals.
Overseas on-ground support
Our network of overseas partners has many years of experience working on Antipodeans’ programs. They deliver invaluable local knowledge, professional support and tried and tested assistance on the ground.
We’ve got you covered
All teams are registered with the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT) in Australia or the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade (MFAT) in New Zealand. They’re also covered by our comprehensive group travel and medical insurance policies*. Whether it’s injury or illness prior to departure or on expedition, an emergency evacuation or the need to divert to a new destination, our insurance has you covered.
Expert medical advice
Antipodeans retains Travellers’ Medical and Vaccination Centre (TMVC) as medical consultants. We recommend all participants to a TMVC clinic to receive relevant, up-to-date medical advice and vaccinations as required. Our travellers also receive a valuable discount when using this service.
* University placement participants are usually covered by their home institution’s travel insurance policy, as requested by Australian and New Zealand universities. Please read the full Insurance Policy Product Disclosure Statement prior to departure for specific insurance details, inclusions and exclusions.
“I was amazed at all the behind-the-scenes work for our uni group. Before going I wondered whether it was worth engaging with Antips, but now I appreciate the prep and am grateful for the support we received.”
Jane Menke, Midwifery Lecturer at Griffith University (Laos Community Health Placement)
