We create extraordinary people through extraordinary experiences. You can, too.
We are Antipodeans, educational travel specialists. We create extraordinary people through extraordinary travel experiences. We started this company because we believe the more people we educate through travel, the more positive the future will be. So, over the past 25 years we’ve been dedicated to empowering students to take ownership and embrace the world beyond their own borders. Australian and New Zealand owned and operated, we’ve explored more than 30 destinations, with over 10,000 students since being founded in 1991.
Fathers, mothers, sisters, uncles, nurses, rescue helicopter pilots and former school teachers we are people just like you. You can read all about us here.
“We sent away our children and in return received young adults who have a better outlook and appreciation of humanity. It was well worth the investment. Thank you to all involved.”
Len Felesina, Parent of Student at Rockhampton Grammar School (Vietnam Expedition)
Our flagship program is an extraordinary journey overseas for secondary students. Unlike your typical school trip, our Expeditions are student-led, preparing young people for life outside the classroom as they develop resilience, vital leadership skills and mindfulness through responsible travel.
More than a buzz word, mindfulness is particularly important to us. Our trips require each student to leave their smartphone at home and live in the now. They must make decisions and communicate as a team—skills they can’t learn looking at a screen.
On top of planning and making decisions, students on Expedition participate in a rewarding community project, breathtaking trek and deep cultural immersion as they explore some of the most spectacular places on Earth. These can be tailored to meet individual school curriculum requirements, so just ask us how.
We refer to these trips as our Community Service Tours. They are everything the Expedition is without the trek, which allows more time for the groups to focus on a theme of their choice, from sustainable community projects to sites of historical significance to jaw-dropping natural wonders all around the world. Looking for a language, history or arts tour? We do that too, simply get in touch to learn more.
A positive alternative to the tired and worn out schoolies trips, Schoolies Unearthed is a unique experience designed for those who like to do things a little different. An incredible 10-day journey to one of five countries, school leavers travel together to explore new and vibrant parts of the world whilst contributing to a sustainable community project. Accompanied by an Antipodeans leader, our teams fully immerse themselves in a new culture, discovering the incredible food, lively locals and stunning scenery along the way.
Antipodeans travels to the four corners of the world, from Borneo to Peru you can view the full list of countries you can oranise a trip to here. We are proud to work closely with international communities who share our vision for the future and offer immersive experiences for students and we will continue to develop these global partnerships in response to school needs, so if you don’t see the country you want to go to, get in touch.
Our programs are designed to relieve teachers of the logistical burden that comes with organising an overseas trip for students. A dedicated Operations Manager is appointed to guide you smoothly through the process and is the single point of contact for schools, teachers and parents ensuring consistency and ease of communication. All Operations Managers are extensively trained and supported by our experienced Operations Team who, between them, have over 40 years experience working with Antipodeans.
- understand your needs. Being Australian and New Zealand operated we’re attuned to the wants of local institutions, unlike our competitors.
- help you spread the word. We’ll provide exciting material to educate and inspire students and parents about the opportunity before officially launching in person at school.
- present the concept to your students and organise a Parent Information Night.
- deliver pre-departure training, preparation and support for students, teachers and parents, building a trusted relationship with all stakeholders.
- organise a two-day training course and a travel simulation day for students, teachers and leaders to ensure everyone arrives overseas with the necessary skills for a successful trip (Expeditions only).
- assist the school and students with fundraising advice.
- coordinate payments and all financial administrative tasks.
- arrange all trip logistics including flights, comprehensive insurance, risk-assessments, visa information, medical kits and more.
- select and prepare a highly qualified team leader, who meets the team prior to departure to cultivate rapport and build team dynamics.
We asked our teachers how we did—100% of them said they wouldn't hesitate recommending us to another teacher or school. Gosh, thanks folks.
Help your students grow. Help yourself grow. Our one-on-one approach ensures each Antips trip is an incredible learning experience for students, teachers and schools—from the very first planning meeting to final touchdown. Working hand in hand with us, teachers and students will gain:
Management and leadership skills
Teachers, develop your skills and knowledge in risk management, processes and protocols for managing risk overseas, medical training and leadership styles via a half day professional development workshop with Antipodeans. Unlike your usual pre-packaged tour, our programs also allow students to actively make decisions; from helping plan their itinerary and managing the team’s travel budget, to organising the team transport, accommodation and food. Primarily student-led, our journeys give teams the opportunity to flourish and discover their own unique leadership style and abilities.
Resilience and personal growth
Travelling in the developing world can be challenging. Our teams are carefully pushed out of their comfort zone and encouraged to think critically, for themselves. Through this, they learn how to adapt, how to be team players and above all, to bounce back from adversity and grow.
Mindfulness, self-awareness and gratitude
The opportunity to slow down, disconnect from social media, put down your phone and focus on the present moment is rare in today’s fast paced society. Through regular reflections, travelling phone-free and exposure to an entirely new culture and environment—our young travelers reconnect with one another and learn to appreciate the smaller things in life. This newfound perspective fosters self-awareness and also a sense of gratitude for the plethora of opportunities they are presented with back home.
Global awareness and social responsibility
Exposing students to global issues is key in their development as socially aware citizens. Through rewarding community service projects, local immersions and outdoor adventure, we expand students’ perspective on other cultures and the environment, bringing to light their own unique impact on this earth.
Build rapport with each other
There is no curriculum here to follow, just real-world learning experiences. Connect with your students on a deeper level with each other in a way that is hard to achieve in a regular school environment.
Be the difference you wish to see
Make a difference! Get your hands dirty and contribute to a community in need, setting an example for others along the way.
“It’s the whole package. Most school programs fail to prepare students adequately, but not Antips. With a two day training camp, regular meetings, simulation day and parent info night, I felt safe and confident traveling with this crew.”
Catherine Ohlsen, Teacher at St. Columba's College (Vietnam Expedition)
We love schools. And they love us, too.
We don’t see ourselves as someone selling you a trip. We see ourselves as the people helping you create a great experience for yourself and your students. We are your trip planners, educators, cultural gurus, operations managers; your one point of contact; your shoulder, ear and problem-solver.
For over 25 years we’ve worked with high schools to provide challenging overseas adventures for students. We don’t take our schools for granted. We know it starts with you. Antipodeans are privileged to work with some of the most passionate educators in Australia and New Zealand and without them, these incredible overseas learning experiences would never be possible. Because of this, we want to help our educators as much as we can, so we do things a bit differently. See how:

The difference, explained.
AU/NZ owned & operated
Our programs are developed right here. This means support that’s only a phone call away and local staff who understand every school and uni is different. We’re right here, invested in Aussie amd Kiwi students too.
No major incidents in 25 years
This record is no fluke. The preparation we go through for every trip is unprecedented in the industry, meaning students, teachers and leaders are better prepared and more confident on trips.
The original school trip provider
We’ve been doing this for 25 years. Some will claim to have been here just as long, but there can only be one, true original. That just happens to be us.
24/7 support at home and overseas
Your team’s location is tracked at all times with GPS. Our operations and support teams are based in Australia or New Zealand and further assisted by 24-hour backup in our Sydney-based support centre. We don’t sleep.
One point of contact
You get a dedicated staff member to help plan and communicate with the university/school, supervisors/parents and students. We sweat the details so you don't have to; ensuring you keep focused on students and educating them—not planning a trip.
Only expert, local leaders
We employ local expert leaders only, picked from comprehensive selection initiatives nationwide—no “drop-in” guides like other travel companies. Appointed to school groups in consultation with schools and principals, all leaders are a minimum of 25 years of age.
Meet the leader before you go
Leaders meet their teams prior to departure to develop group dynamics and build rapport with students prior to departure. This is vital as the leaders can then focus on actively facilitating leadership on the trip, not building a relationship.
We’re partnering with the UN
We are a signatory of the United Nations Global Compact, the world’s largest corporate sustainability initiative. Our community projects also align with the Global Sustainable Development Goals.
Expedition students travel phone-free and teams participate in mindful minutes and guided reflections.
Our overseas employees and partners abide by the Antipodeans Code of Conduct, ensuring projects truly benefit the community. Students rated our projects a ‘9.5 out of 10’ and 97% of educators felt their project had real impact.

What countries do Schoolies Unearthed trips travel to?
Our Schoolies Unearthed trips can travel to Borneo, Thailand, Laos, Vietnam and Cambodia.
How much work is involved for teachers?
To be honest, not much at all! A dedicated Antipodeans Operations Manager is appointed to every school to help guide teachers through the process and take care of pre-departure training, financial administrative tasks and trip logistics - including flights.
When will we travel?
For Expeditions, we will work with your school to arrange a departure time that best suits you. Antipodeans Expeditions typically take place in mid-year and end of year school holiday periods, however, we’re flexible, so its up to you!
Unearthed trips are flexible and designed to fit in with end of school celebrations. Typically, groups depart late November or early December. We will work with you to ensure the destination and departure dates are best suited to your graduating students.
How many students and teachers travel per team?
To ensure appropriate ratios for risk management and to meet our responsible travel guidelines, Expedition teams range from 12–20 students, 1–2 staff members and 1 Antipodeans Leader. There is no limit to the amount of students who can travel from one school, as we can split students into individual teams.
For every 8 students that travel, 1 staff member travels free of charge.
Schoolies Unearthed teams range from 10–20 students and travel with 1 Antipodeans Leader.
Is it safe?
Yes. We have many risk management procedures in place that ensure a safe and memorable trip for your school.
