Why choose us?
We are Antipodeans, educational travel specialists. We create extraordinary people through extraordinary travel experiences. We started this company because we believe the more people we educate through travel, the more positive the future will be. So, over the past 25 years we’ve been dedicated to empowering students take ownership and embrace the world beyond their own borders. Australian owned and operated, we’ve explored more than 30 destinations, with over 10,000 students since being founded in 1991.
Fathers, mothers, sisters, uncles, nurses, rescue helicopter pilots and former school teachers; we are people just like you. You can read all about us here.
“I can’t speak highly enough of Antips. Their risk assessment is extensive and they’re always happy to discuss issues or concerns to find workable solutions. Thanks for providing my students with an opportunity to make a difference and appreciate diversity in a way they can’t at home.”
Hazel Rands, Dep. Program Director for the School of Nursing and Midwifery at Griffith University
Dan Donati and Lachlan Bunn. Directors, adventurers and big believers in shaping the future through responsible travel.
We’ve built our reputation on collaboration with Australian and New Zealand universities, delivering international placements that meet your institution’s needs–not ours. Your students’ placements will be designed to support course objectives and meet academic requirements, whilst honing their professional and personal skills.
For 2 to 4 weeks students are immersed in developing communities overseas where they apply coursework and gain experiential learning in practical settings that are vastly different from home. Students must overcome language, social and cultural barriers whilst supporting and working with local staff. They build on core life skills like critical thinking and problem solving. They become global citizens.
Developed in conjunction with the communities we travel to, an Antipodeans University Placement is a professional learning experience that adds real, tangible value to a student's résumé and positively impacts the lives of many around the world.
We currently work with 29 university faculties across various disciplines: Arts & Humanities, Business, Health, Education, Law, Science and Social Sciences. We can also offer Community Engagement or Leadership programs for any discipline, so if you don’t see yours, please get in touch.
Antipodeans is proud to work closely with international communities who share our vision for the future and offer immersive experiences for students. We will continue to develop our global partnerships in response to university needs, so if you don’t see the country you wish to travel to in the list below, get in touch.

As experts in international tertiary placements, Antipodeans manage all aspects of the placement on behalf of the university—from start to finish.
We will:
- understand your needs. Being Australian and New Zealand operated we’re attuned to the wants of local institutions, unlike our competitors.
- give your students the placements they want. Thoroughly researched and developed in conjunction with universities and overseas providers, we ensure placements meet course objectives.
- manage all logistical aspects of the program, from itineraries through to accommodation, transport and meals.
- be a single point of contact for the university, supervisor and students.
- facilitate communication between the above parties to alleviate extra work for university staff, ensuring their focus is on students and the university—not planning a trip.
- promote placements to students and manage the bookings on behalf of the university.
- provide students with pre-departure training to ensure their team is aware of local cultures and placement expectations.
- deliver comprehensive risk management, including 24-hour backup and support for students and supervisors by our teams, both in Australia/NZ and on the ground.

“One of the most rewarding things I’ve done with students. Students learnt the importance of communication, being tolerant, sharing opinions and considering other points of view. They learnt versatility is a trait all nurses should have and, as a profession, that we can make a real difference.”
Dr. Kerry Reid-Searl, Nursing Senior Lecturer at Central Queensland University (Thailand Community Health Placement)
We love universities. And they love us, too.
We’re not selling you a trip. We see ourselves as people helping create an experience for you and your students. We are your trip planners, educators, cultural gurus, operations managers, problem-solvers, shoulder, ear and one point of contact.
We don’t take our universities for granted and know it starts with you. We’ve worked with some of the most passionate educators in Australia and New Zealand. Without them, these incredible learning experiences wouldn’t be possible, so we help universities as much as we can to do things differently. See how, below.

The difference, explained.
AU/NZ owned & operated
Our programs are developed right here. This means support that’s only a phone call away and local staff who understand every school and uni is different. We’re right here, invested in Aussie amd Kiwi students too.
No major incidents in 25 years
This record is no fluke. The preparation we go through for every trip is unprecedented in the industry, meaning students, teachers and leaders are better prepared and more confident on trips.
The original school trip provider
We’ve been doing this for 25 years. Some will claim to have been here just as long, but there can only be one, true original. That just happens to be us.
24/7 support at home and overseas
Your team’s location is tracked at all times with GPS. Our operations and support teams are based in Australia or New Zealand and further assisted by 24-hour backup in our Sydney-based support centre. We don’t sleep.
One point of contact
You get a dedicated staff member to help plan and communicate with the university/school, supervisors/parents and students. We sweat the details so you don't have to; ensuring you keep focused on students and educating them—not planning a trip.
Only expert, local leaders
We employ local expert leaders only, picked from comprehensive selection initiatives nationwide—no “drop-in” guides like other travel companies. Appointed to school groups in consultation with schools and principals, all leaders are a minimum of 25 years of age.
We’re partnering with the UN
We are a signatory of the United Nations Global Compact, the world’s largest corporate sustainability initiative. Our community projects also align with the Global Sustainable Development Goals.
Sustainable projects
Our overseas employees and partners abide by the Antipodeans Code of Conduct, ensuring projects truly benefit the community. Students rated our projects a ‘9.5 out of 10’ and 97% of educators felt their project had real impact.
